Surgery Plan

(I apologize for not posting this sooner. It's been one of those days!)

I spoke with Dr. Milazzo today, and he said that we will plan on doing the surgery sometime mid-to-late January. Charlotte is doing so well that there is no hurry to do the surgery, so the team decided it would be best to let her grow a little more. They look at her weight gain and her oxygen saturations to determine when her heart is having to work too hard to stay as-is, and right now she is still gaining weight like a little champ (40 grams over night last night!) and her O2 sats are still in the 80s. So we will wait and let her chunk up a little.

I am happy about this for two reasons. We can have a normal Christmas with family and I can go ahead and start her on solids in a few weeks. That should help fatten her up even more.

We will have another appointment with Dr. M. in a few weeks, and we will schedule her heart catheterization then. Her surgery will be two weeks after the cath, which is done to give the surgeon and his team the best picture of her heart and lung function. That will be an overnight stay at Duke. Dr. Milazzo said that we can expect a 7-10 day stay for the surgery.

Two Bits

We had a visit with the Cardiologist today, and as usual, Baby Girl checked out fine!

We will find out Friday when her next surgery will be.

Updates...

We had two doctor's visits recently - last week for Sam's 3 year check up, and yesterday for Charlotte's second round of RSV prevention. While we were there yesterday the doctor decided to do her 4 month visit, so we don't have to go back again next week.

Can you believe Baby Girl is four months old?

Up first is Sam. He weighed in at 27 pounds. He is a little guy, but that's okay. He is very healthy, so no one is worried about the weight. Plus he's easy to tote around. He wowed 'em with his developmental skills and he has 20/30 vision. He is also doing better with the potty training, and he has completely moved on from the pacis! Yay!

Charlotte is also doing great. She is at 11.5 pounds now, and she is right on target for growth. She is eating well and she has been sleeping through the night for over a week now. She lost some weight when she first dropped her middle-of-the-night feeding, but she is back on track. She also is hitting all of the developmental milestones for her age, so we are happy about that. And aside from five shots yesterday, the visit went well.

That's it for now. The camera batteries are dead, so I'll post new pictures once I get new batteries.
